gallery news and events

LAST SHOWS: We hope you'll come out to see our final exhibitions here at the gallery: Patrick W. Welch, Erling Sjovold, and collaborative work by Grave Dubz + Smoov Brainz.  The shows run from June 6th-June 28th with an opening reception on Friday, June 6th from 6-9 pm.  These are our last shows here since we've lost our (new) gallery space and the building is being sold/leased.  We're officially moving out by June 30th.  At that point, the gallery is closing permanently.  I don't have the energy to relocate the gallery again (especially so soon!).  I'll operate as a private dealer for a few artists, and I hope to have opportunities to curate and jury occasional shows.  After losing my space so suddenly and reviewing my options, I realize at this point in my life, I mostly just want to relax and spend time with family.  I also plan to be more involved in the Evanston community where I live.  I recently founded a non-profit organization, The Evanston Live In Peace Alliance in Memory of Daryll Shanon Pickett, an ETHS student who was murdered a block from the school (by a fellow student).   I'm also involved in a (temporary) position working wtih Flashpoint Academy, the new digital arts media college headed up by Chicago art collector, Howard Tullman.   But I will mostly devote more time to traveling, relaxing, and simply enjoying life!  This decision to close the gallery is bittersweet, since I love my artists and enjoy the gallery and my many friends in the art community, but it seems that it's just my time to 'fade away.'  Thanks to all my friends and supporters!  And a special thanks to all the talented artists I've had the opportunity and pleasure to work with, and to the hard-working and fabulous staff I've had along the way (Leslie Carlson, Jannette Rho, Amber Vilas, Eddie Merma, Danielle, Laura Mackin and Nanette).

Proceed and be Bold by documentary filmmakers Laura Zinger and Michelle Kaffko of Brown Finch Films makes it's world debut at Columbia College on Friday, May 9th, with a second screening on Saturday, May 10th at DePaul University.  It is a film about Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., a printing press and book artist. Our own Patrick W. Welch was interviewed for the film to discuss the Micromentalist Movement he founded and to offer insight into the art of Kennedy.  Footage was shot at both gescheidle and Navta Schulz galleries, so if you don't blink you might be able to see us in the film too.  Thanks especially to Laura Zinger for discovering Patrick through his interview with Justin Kaufmann on Hello Beautiful on WBEZ (which ultimately led her to us as well).
